Yellow Dress for H

I finished this dress a while ago and it was a little bit too big on H but now I think it fits ok. Personally as much as I want H to wear dresses, it is not practical. She falls pretty often and she likes playing in dirt. She usually wears some leggins and t-shirts.

As for the dress, it is McCall's M4424. I added ribbon to the front as an embellishment and added under-skirt. Is there such a word?

Tutu and another tee for Hannah

Last Sunday we were invited to H's friend's birthday party and I made a no-sew tutu and a new tee for H.

How to make a tutu:

You need elastic and 2 yards of tulle. Maybe 1 yard could be enough, but the skirt won't be so full.
  1. take a 1/4 elastic, wrap around your kid's belly and tie a knot.
  2. cut tulle into strips. I eye measured how long I want the skirt to be.
  3. and now the fun part: fold in half each strip and tie around elastic.

I used grey and purple colors and grey color strips turned out longer than purple ones and I like it. Now I want one for myself :) I actually found a good tutorial from By Hand London that I want to use.

For tee I used trusty Banyan tee and this fabric from Girl Charlee. I loved the fabric look BUT! your iron needs to be set to lowest temperature. If it's too hot, the gold dots will melt. Hannah also left some tomato stains on her shirt so I handwashed right after and of course instead of stains the gold dots got washed off. Such a bummer specially when you spend time picking fabric, then paying for it, then sewing with it and it gets only one use. Not cool. Anyways, Hannah was a star at that party :) Random people at the park thought it was her birthday :)

I love the way she walks here

New curtains

I've been looking for some curtains for my bedroom window and liked nothing. And then I stumbled upon big sheer scarf with yellow dips. I cut it in half and hemmed cut side. I am in love with how it turned out:

Reversible Bucket Hat

Sun is out and my daughter needed a new hat. I used pattern by Oliver+S and followed A Little Gray's tutorial how to make brims wider. Hannah turned 18 months this month but her head size fits 2 years old and I went with 3 years old size. It is a little bigger on her but it fits nicer when her hair is done in high side ponytails. Anyways, pictures:

Scoop top v.1 and 2

I have been busy sewing up some new cool things! First I tried Scoop Top free pattern from Skirt As Top and I loved it! The fit is perfect and it is free :) This was supposed to be a muslin, and I liked it so much that I couldn't stop wearing it.

My version 2 of the same pattern with a pocket this time:

P.S. Look at those stripes matching each other!

Dixie DIY's Hot Cocoa and pattern grading

Tried myself at pattern grading and played with Dixie DIY Hot Cocoa Sweater. Not too bad for my first try. I still had trouble with that neckline and it turned out too baggy in the back. Other than that it's so warm and i love wearing it at home when it's too cold.

New duvet cover

One morning I woke up hating my current bedding. I don't like its color, or quality, or anything. So I decided to make some new pillowcases and a new duvet cover.

Duvet cover turned out huge and it is really hard to take a picture but it is so homey and comfy and it brings so much light to our bedroom. I love it! For the front I used all my flowery patterned fabric that I had for over 2 years and I am really excited about it. For the back I used a flat sheet I never used.

Banyan Tee from Figgys Patterns

And it's finished: Banyan Tee from Figgy's Patterns! I love the result and everything matched. I went with boys version as I liked the sleeves better, and my 15 months old wasn't walking when I was sewing it so I wanted shorter version too for her. Now when she is 16 months old and is already walking I want to make her a girls version.

The fabric is from Girl Charlee Fabrics and it was on a thin side as for my first try of sewing with knits :) It looks very cool and it has this vintagy vibe.
